Suggest Symptoms Of MVP

My family dr along with symptoms and an echocardiogram has led to my diagnoses of mvp. Some drs blow it off and say its not that big of a deal and something else must be causing my symptoms. However many tests have been done.all ok.what do you consider true symptoms of mvp?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern, and would like to explain that mitral valve prolapse is usually well tolerated, nevertheless many symptoms may appear during the course of disease.

As most of the patients are asymptomatic, there may also appear:

- Symptoms related to autonomic dysfunctions, like palpitations, arrhythmias, fatigue, anxiety, exercise intolerance, panic attacks, presyncope and even syncope, etc.

- Symptoms related to associated mitral regurgitations, like fatigue, dyspnea, orthopnea, paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea, clinical signs of heart failure, etc.

- Sometimes, pectus excavatus, scoliosis or kyphosis, asthenic body habitus, etc. may be present.

When judging about a possible MVP implication of a certain clinical symptomatology, it is necessary to perform a good etiological-pathological correlation i neach case.

As some symptoms are related to psychological disorders, sometime is difficult to find responsible causes.

You need to discuss with your attending physician about these issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
