Suggest Suitable Medication For Deep And Dark Depression

My husband suffers from deep and dark depression brought on by having a stroke. He has had three since this past October. He was given Sertraline (25mg). I would like to know if this medicine should be given at night or would it be best during the daytime. He takes Xanax (0.5mg)at bedtime along with Carvedilol (6.25mg) two tablets, and one (40mg)) of Atorvastatin. Xanax and Sertraline ok at night?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

A lot of individuals develop severe depression as post stroke complication. He is on Sertraline and this is a SSRI drug. This drug is considered as a safe drug to use in cardiac and renal patients. I usually prescribe Sertraline at night time to my patients as it can cause sedation. Xanax is alprazolam and it is given at night. Yes it is ok to give sertraline and alprazolam at night. But consult his psychiatric prescription before making any dose adjustments.

Thanks, hope this helps you.

Psychiatrist Dr. Shubham Mehta's  Response
Hello
Sertraline and xanax both can be given at night.
In some cases, sertraline can cause disturbed sleep when taken at night. But this varies from person to person.
If your husband feels ok to take sertraline at night, there is no problem.
Taking drugs together also lessens the stress of remebering taking drugs whole day.

Thanks.
