Hi, my head is leaking fluids. What can I do to stop the fluid? Should I apply Vaseline? I know its either scalp psoriasis or sebhoretic dermatitis. I have flakes, itching and patches on my neck. I just want to know if i should be worried about the leaking fluids?. Its sticky and creates even more scabes. I woke up with crust around my hairline, a damp pillow and a stiff side of my face from the fluid drying up on it. Help!
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Th condition affecting the scalp is most likely seborrheic dermatitis with secondary bacterial contamination, which is hence causing oozing and crusting. If I was the treating doctor I would have started you on a course of oral antibiotics, which would dry up the discharge. An oral antibiotic from the penicillin group of drugs e.g flucloxacillin would have been my choice I would also suggest a 5% cetrimide based shampoo/scalp wash, once daily. Cetrimide is antiseptic as well as antiseborrheic/de-greasing agent and therefore would help to remove sticky discharge and as well as loosen up the crusts. I would suggest that you visit a dermatologist in your region for a confirmatory diagnosis.
