Dear Doctor, I am a diabetic patient, having diabetes for the last 10years. My age is 33 years and having chronic pancreatitis(multiple stone present in Pancreas) as well. I am preparing for surgery in the coming April 2012 for pancreatitis. Today i checked microalbumin. It is showing 20mg/L and doctor said it is not normal. This is the first time i am having albumin in urine. My HBA1C is 8.5. it was 7.5 and 7.2 in the previous tests. Could you please advise me risks and treatments for reducing microalbumin present in urine. Regards Fahad Kuwait

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Jyothi B L's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. You are having early stages of nephropathy. 2. It cannot be reversed. Good control of diabetes will prevent further damage and progression. 3. Follow up with HbA1c levels to check for diabetes control and also micro albumin to check for renal disease Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
