Psychiatrist 's  Response
Dear User,
Going by your description, your sister needs re-evaluation for bipolar disorder, as in bipolar disorder there are episodes of depression and mania/hypomania. I have come across many patients presenting to me as depression and eventually turning out to be bipolar disorder. The line of management is entirely different for simple depression (Unipolar depression) and Bipolar depression. You may discuss about the same with your Psychiatrist.
