Suggest Remedy For Yeast Infection

Hi, I have the exact symptoms of a yeast infection (not bacterial vaginosis). I understand these can be the same symptoms as an STD as well but I am a virgin (I realize you can still contract an STD through any gential contact, I have not engaged in anything that could have resulted in one I am 100% positive of this). Do I still need to see a doctor before treating myself with something like Canesten? Is it extremely dangerous if I do this before seeing a doctor and it is not a yeast infection? I know you are supposed to get diagnosed when it is your first one but I can't get an appointment for a long time and I am desperate to treat this. Also is it safe to swim in a chlorine pool while using Canesten, because I have to for my job.
