Suggest Remedy For Throat Pain After Tonsil Removal Surgery

I am a 23 year old female and non smoker. I have had throat problems for most of my life. I got my tonsils taken out almost a year ago because they would always swell and get infected. For a few days, approximately 5 days, I have had this hard lump on what I think is my right palatoglossal arch. It hurts to swallow, open my mouth and throbs when my mouth is closed. My neck on my right is tender to the touch by my lymph node. The lump has become bigger since it originally appeared. I will upload a photo. I just want to know if it s serious enough to go to the doctor. I would love to stop having throat issues :(

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If I were to be treating you, I would suggest you visit an ENT specialist at the earliest. The symptoms you have described pertain to an inflammatory condition which can worsen in the coming days if left untreated. Also, since you had long standing history of throat pain there is a possibility of you having chronic tonsillitis and in this case the tonsils may have undergone fibrosis and would not have been completely removed during tonsil removal surgery. The remnants left behind can get infected and inflamed. In either case you may require antibiotics.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Tejas, General & Family Physician
