Suggest Remedy For Swelling In Hands And Feet, Migraines And Pain In Hips

Swollen feet; almost double in size. Then swelling went down somewhat and hands swelled. Also have severe migraine headaches; thyroid removed and on medication for that. Spinal injury in car accident; medication for pain. Hip aches off and on possibly from arthritis.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Swelling of feet and hands is seen in acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, deep venous thrombosis, obesity, standing for long periods of time, and medications such as contraceptives, hormonal therapy, steroids.

To those who come to my clinic with similar complaints, I suggest complete blood picture, kidney function tests, ECG, 2D echocardiography, and liver function tests. Stop taking pain medications like NSAIDs as they aggravate kidney dysfunction if any. Migraine medications can be taken. You need to go to a physician for thorough clinical examination and above mentioned tests to arrive at a specific diagnosis and for appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
