Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hai Iam a 23 year old female, I just lost my younger brother. He passed away due to a massive heart attack. Since then I have not been able to sleep I keep reliving the scenes of how he would have felt just before he died, Iam terrified of death now Iam so scared I felt I was stronger than this but I just cant stop thinking about how he would have felt.
You have just lost your younger brother and now you are not able to sleep properly. You think about the scenes when he died. You have fear of death. Most of these symptoms represent normal grief reaction. After death of a loved one individual become depressed and have fear of death. In most of individuals symptoms don't complicate to depressive disorder and go away in about 6 months. In some individuals severe depression is seen. I would advise you to consult a psychiatrist for treatment of insomnia and evaluation of depressive symptoms. For short term management of insomnia medicines like Benzodiazepines can be used. For depressive symptoms SSRIs as fluoxetine, paroxetine etc are commonly used. Consult a psychiatrist for prescription.
Try to divert your mood away from his death, spend time with friends, talk with some close family member, practice yoga to keep yourself relaxed.
Thanks, hope this helps you.
