Suggest Remedy For Red Swollen Tonsils

My throat started hurting about 2 days ago. My tonsils are red and swollen and it also hurts to swallow. I don t have any white spots or runny nose but my ears do feel a little itchy. I don t know if I have strep or a just a cold. My sister and mom also had the symptoms before I did so i m guessing whatever they had I have but they took penicillin which i m allergic to. So I am trying to figure out what I can take to cure it.

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
History of the similar problem in your sister and mother indicate that this is most probable a flu and hence you have got red and swollen tonsils but no pus or so.
I would advise you to take symptomatic treatment like a PPI and anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen and consult your Doctor for the strep test and get a prescription of a safe antibiotic only if required.
Taking rest helps to recover faster.
