I HAVE SCIATIC PAIN FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 10 YEARS I AM NOW 75. LOVE PLAYING GOLF. CAN I PLAY AT LEAST 9 HOLES? I DO NOT FEEL ANY PAIN DURING THE SWING MOTION. AFTER PLAYING IS WHEN THE PAIN SHOWS UP. ALSO AFTER SITTING FOR A PERIOD OF 1 HOUR OR MORE. NEED TO BEND FORWARD IN ORDER TO STOP THE PAIN. IT WORKS.....EVERY TIME.. WHILE WALKING THE PAIN APPEARS AFTER 8 MINUTES. SAUL ROTBERG

General & Family Physician, Dr. ABDL RAUF's Response
Hi
Gone through your query. This is typically pain due to spinal stenosis a condition common in this age group.
It is better to take some rest when the pain starts after playing . Also try to avoid playing continuously for long time . Try to take short breaks for rest in between short of the pain threshold periods.
Bending forward while taking rest is one way to get relief of the pain . You can also get relief by lying on back and pulled your knees upto the chest .
Meanwhile take Ibuprofen or diclofenac tablets for pain relief . Make sure you are not allergic to one of these medcications . If you are on any other medications for any other illness then better to discuss with your doctor to avoid any interaction between different types of the medicine .
It is also advisable to get an xray of your spine done at sometimes to see the degree of narrowing the spine and compression over nerves .
Feel free to ask any more questions or to clear your doubts .
Thank you
