Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My right rib cage has been hurting for maybe a week and a half now. I thought the pain would go away that s why I haven t seen a doctor yet. When I laugh my right rib cage starts to hurt and when I bend over occasionally at work I can t breath and bend at the same time without my rib cage hurting me. I walk slower than usual because how bad my ribs start to when I do any form of moves. After sitting when I stand up it feels like something is pulling and it hurts really bad. I often have the runs now but when I use the bathroom the lower left side of my stomach starts to give me a pain that makes it hard for me to use the bathroom. I never felt this pain before and I dont have a idea of what it is. Can someone please give me answers
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain near the rib cage which increases while laughing, sitting and standing is suggestive of musculoskeletal pain or pleural pain. Pleura is the covering of the lungs and inflammation of pleura due to any cause can lead to pain while breathing and other movements. Musculoskeletal system includes muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone. Pain can arise from muscle strain or sprain, ligament pull etc. I suggest you to consult a pulmonologist for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management. A X-ray chest will help to determine any lesion of rib cage or any collection in the pleural cavity.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
