Suggest Remedy For Numbness In Thumb

Dear Dr. Rynne, I have suffered numbness in my right thumb and the index and middle fingers since open heart surgery to repair my aorta with Dacron, replaced a valve in my heart and had a maze procedure. It has been three months since surgery. Can I expect to regain feeling in my fingers? How long does it take for nerves to regenerate?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to healhcaremagic
After going through your query I concluded that that you have symptoms of median nerve involvement. You may be having carpal tunnel syndrome . It may probably not be related with heart disease and valve replacement. You may need nerve conduction velocity check to investigate further. If the nerve was involved during the heart surgery then it is likely to recover in 6 weeks. Mecobalamine may be of help. You can discuss with your Doctor about it.Hope your query answered. If you have any clarification please don't hesitate to write to us. I will be happy to help you .
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
