Dear Terry

I sense you may have two problems. You mention loss of beloved wife and cat that has now left you with feeling tired and either sleeping too much o not sleeping at all. This is typical symptoms of depression and you may benefit from medication and behavior therapy.

In my clinic I see patients very similar to you and I would start treatment with an SSRI and recommend a work book for cognitive behavioral therapy. The combination will help you feel more in control and lift your spirits.

The other issue is possible post polio syndrome. I have had several patients with this condition and it is a result of having polio as a child. It can make you feel very tired and exhausted. I recommend that people with PPD that they pace themselves and eat a well balanced diet and moderate exercise. My patients have had good success with following these simple principles. Keep your spirits up.

Hope this answers your questions. If you have any further questions please feel contact us again.
