Suggest Remedy For Ear Infection Along With Cold In A Child

My son has had no ear infections until last spring, (he is 7 1/2) and only happens when he gets a cold. We have remedied a good bunch with Nasacort, but this Year he has had one per month, except April, got a cold and has one now. The fluid completely clears between, so that is not a problem. Do we need to see an ENT or visit an allergist?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Here, ear pain with cold could be due to otitis media or upper respiratory infection or sinusitis etc.

In children, it is mostly due to viral infection (EB virus, adenovirus, influenza virus etc) or bacterial infection (streptococcus, staphylococcus etc) or may be parasitic infection.

He might require detailed history taking and thoroughly clinical-ENT examination by a specialist.

He should be given antibiotics (macrolides or quinolones) to prevent super-infection and antipyretics with anti-allergic like cetrizine or betahistine for full course treatment.

You can continue using of nasacort but he might require more treatment as i said.

So,better you consult ENT surgeon immediately who can examine your child and prescribe above treatment.

Regards,
