Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My lips have become very dry and chapped, with a metal type taste in the inner part of my lips, which are also irritated. My tongue also feels irritated, noticed more when I eat something. Could this be caused by my mouthwash? Which I've recently switched brands.
Understanding your concern. As per your query dry, chapped lips are usually caused due to dehydration due to which there are cracks in lips which causes accumulation of bacteria and microbes. This can be easily resolved by the application of petroleum jelly. Apart from the weather, a vitamin deficiency such as vitamin B12 , diabetes could be the cause for dry lips. Need not to worry. Drink plenty of water and maintain adequate hydration. Keep applying moisturizing agent. Olive oil and coconut oil are effective remedies. You should visit dermatologist if condition keeps on persisting.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
