Suggest Remedy For Disorientation After Discontinuing Lexapro

I ve recently discontinued 10mg Lexapro daily and have been experiencing some slight disorientation and mild shortness of breath. For a few weeks I lowered my dosage from 10mg to 5mg and then stopped altogether. I attributed the mild disorientation and mild shortness of breath to that, but it has not subsided for the past 3 weeks. I took my blood pressure for the first time in months tonight on an Omron HEM-780 and the first reading was 168/92/70. Then I took it a second time and it was 158/92/63. Do you think my symptoms are related to discontinuing the Lexapro or to my elevated blood pressure.

Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic

Lexapro is Escitalopram and the drug is a SSRI drug. The drug results in increase in serotonin neurotransmission and helps in depression and anxiety. After taking drug regularly for long time and then discontinuation results in withdrawal effects. Though you have tapered the doses still the symptoms like dizziness or disorienting feeling are possibly occurring due to mild withdrawal of the drug. In most of individuals such symptoms reduce in about 4 weeks. In some individuals rise in BP is also seen. Consult a doctor if BP remain in high range. For mild symptoms like dizziness low dose benzodiazepines can help to improve functioning.

Thanks, I hope this helps you
