Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife has Turner's. She seems to be having problems with judgement issues and depression. She is becoming more antisocial and fear driven when making decisions for the family. She does not want to believe it has anything to do with her Turners and refuses to talk to a doctor. What can I do to help??????
She has Turner's syndrome and this is really a big and distressing issue. The patients suffering from Turner's may show cognitive deficits like impaired judgement, difficulty in making decisions, poor memory, inability to learn new things etc. Such cognitive deficits can make individual feel inferior and this may be the reason for her depressive symptoms. I would advise you to take her to a psychiatrist for proper management. If she is not getting ready to take medicines at least make her agree to visit for evaluation.
Cognitive enhancers like Donepezil, Memantin can help to improve the symptoms due to cognitive deficits. For depression SSRIs like Escitalopram, Sertraline etc can help. These medicines will improve her mood and she will feel better. Apart from this provide her good support and proper care. Don't make her feel bad about illness and she will improve.
Thanks, hope this helps you. Take Care
