Suggest Remedy For Chronic Snoring

I'm 18 and I have chronic snoring! I want to get rid of snoring before I get a roommate in college. My family doctor laughed when I brought this up and said it wasn't a big deal and that it would go away cause I am still a child. I am 18! I still snore! I asked her this last year... I've always snored. It's not sleep apnea however. I've never had trouble breathing or woken up cause of my snoring. I'm very skinny. I don't smoke or drink alcohol. I'm generally a pretty healthy person. I do have some sinus problems. I thought the cause was sinuses so I bought those 'breathe right strips' and they did not reduce my snoring. I do open my mouth when I snore. Please help! This problem is very embarrassing and I tried asking many people but they just laugh at me. I want to get rid of this!Do you think it will help if I use a mouth guard?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain snoring can occur due to a number of cause and in case of you are skinny, do not smoke or take alcohol and have no obstruction in breathing the cause of snoring can be mouth breathing habit or some disorders related to tongue..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician or an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated.
As of now you should try remedies like..
Sleep in lateral position and not on back, if you have mouth breathing habit you can also put a doctor's tape on closed lips to enforce nasal breathing, take steam inhalation and a warm water bath before sleeping..
You can also be advised to wear snore protection mouth guards for reducing snoring..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
