Suggest Remedy For Chronic Diarrhea With Hemorrhoids And Elevated Cholesterol Level

Hi I may be having IBS. Stress, high fat diet, lactose/dairy, and even green tea seems to trigger diarrhoea. If my stool is not loose, it s constipated. I have developed hemorrhoids from years of alternating LBM and Constipation. It also seems to happen more often when I gain weight. I have fatty liver as well and high cholesterol despite my age and being within the normal BMI range. I m only 31 and I don t wanna succumb to this. I am taking Probiotics but it s too soon to see results. I know I need to exercise and change my diet which I m desperately trying to do. Is peppermint oil recommendable as well? I prefer enteric coated because I have gastritis too. What are the best things I can do so I can keep my guts healthy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Having Irritable bowel syndrome, gastritis and hemorrhoids can be troubling. In my experience life style changes should be the first thing you should try which includes:
1. Exercising like walking, running, gym activity daily or at least 5 days a week.
2. Avoid anything that triggers IBS like dairy or high fat diet.
3. Add more fruits and green vegetables to your diet to prevent constipation.
4. Stay well hydrated in case you get diarrhea
5. Exercise and diet control will help you manage your weight which will help with hemorrhoids.
6. Peppermint oil is also known to help with stomach cramps and has shown positive results in most of the IBS patients.
7. Avoid/stop smoking and alcohol intake.

I would also recommend you to get your liver function tests and cholesterol test every 3 months to see the changes. Incase if the test reports keep deteriorating or the hemorrhoids become painful, you should see visit your GP.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
