Suggest Remedy For Bouts Of Agitation With Loss Of Sight
Hi. I have a relative who is diabetic and recently had an amputation. She is overweight and has been hospitalized since March with an infection. Recently, something changed. After the amputation, her mental status was interrupted. She doesn t know where she is or who her friends are. She also had to be restrained after removing her PICC line. She goes through bouts of agitation (loud moaning and thrashing). She is not verbalizing and has lost some sight and vision. What should we expect? She is alone in Ohio as far as family goes. We are headed there on Friday.
There are different possible causes for these symptoms: (1) brief psychotic episode-traumatic events, severe illness, family conflict, accidents can precipitate a severe episode. After the psychotic break, the person returns to normal functioning
(2)delirium- this is a temporary , reversible change in brain function that results in an acute confusional state Treated by determining the cause (eg infection, dehydration, abnormal electrolytes) and treating it.
I hope this helps
