Suggest Remedy For A Painful Sore On The Toe

Our 2 year old has a sore on his left foot big toe. There is a white dot on his toe and his toe is reddish in color and hot to the tough. We soaked it in epsom salt water, dried it off, and put some Neosporin on it with a band aid. He won t let us touch it and says it hurts when we barely touch it. Should we take him to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I can understand your concern.it appears as cellulitis of the toe. Since your son is complaining of pain,it is tender and warm to touch. These signs indicate towards cellulitis. The cause of which should be known if any injury occured or any ingrown nail is present. The treatment of cellulitis would be anti inflammatory drugs like diclofenac and an antibiotic like augmentin for five days. In case pus develops it should be drained for effective treatment. Continue insertion of toe in warm salt water. In case of any ingrown nail if these medications donot improve the condition, the nail should be removed. Hope you are satisfied with the response. Kisly hit thanks
