Suggest Remedy For A Crack On Top Of Tongue

I am wondering what I can do about a split or crack that has appeared on the top of my tongue. I have never had this before, it is painful and when I look in the mirror it looks like a little "canyon" in the center of my tongue. It is only a out half an inch long.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain a small crack over the top of tongue can be due to beginning of fissured tongue in which there is formation of grooves over the tongue while it can also be due to other causes like hematinic deficiency that is deficiency of iron and Vitamin B12, Oral infections leading to inflammation, physical trauma etc..
You should consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations as per the suspected cause can be done to confirm the diagnosis so that treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now you can take a multivitamin tablet daily, take Tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain, do warm saline gargles and suck on ice pops for reducing Inflammation..
You should keep the area of groove clean to prevent infection caused due to food lodgment in that area..
