Suggest Remedies For Tightness, Tingling Sensation And Swelling In Legs, Arms And Fingers

Hi there, I m a nursing assistant currently on night-duty. I ve been finding on my stint of nights that my legs from the knees down are extremely tight and swollen with tingles running up and down it. This also applies to my fingers and arms (fingers are swollen, but the tingling sensation goes up and down the length of my arms. Particularly my right side. My feet are extremely achy to walk on, but equally resting them up doesn t seem to be helping either. When finishing night shift I find that it takes two full days for the symptoms to not be as intense but when I return to work it starts all over again. Im 25, and don t have these issues when I work during the day. Can you please advise? Many Thanks, Sammy

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.

The treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications however, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one.

Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also, take vitamin d supplements and regulate blood sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
