Thank you. My husband was diagnosed with shingles on his right side of the face including his eye about 4 weeks ago. The scabs are gone, but the redness is still there. But the real problem is the pain. He has been taking pain killers for weeks now and his stomach can t take it anymore. He is 73 yrs old and don t know what to do to help him ease so much pain.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
Understand your concern.
Do not worry
Shingles generally recover in 4-5 weeks.
But main problem is re occurrence and pain.
Postherpetic neuralgia is main complication that produce pain

I prescribed following medicine and advice in this type of case
2. Pain medication: acetaminophen
3. Topical treatment: Neosporine ointment, Capsaicin cream and Calamine lotion

If pain not respond then you have to take
tablet Amitryptaline, Topical Benzocaine or lidocaine gel and
Opioids & caffeine
Cool water bath and Wet compression also he;p in relieving the pain.

So wait for one week if pain will not subsides then take the above prescribed drug by consulting to physician doctor

Hope this may help you.
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
