Suggest Remedies For Severe Pain And Swelling On The Lips Post An Injury
My teeth went through my lower lip on Sunday night. I have had stitches both inside and out of my lip and after the anaesthetic wore off my lip has swelled hugely. I am using ice (not on the actual wound but on the lip) to a) make it feel less painful and b) try and reduce the swelling. I'm taking care not to get the wound on the outside wet. Is this ok? How long might it take for the swelling to start reducing. I had the stitched 24 hours ago. Thanks
As per your complain severe pain and swelling of the lips after traumatic injury seems to be most probably due to inflammation of the soft tissues of the lips due to hitting with the teeth leading to inflammation and swelling. I would suggest you to continue doing cool compresses over the lips.
Along with it you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen. In case if swelling is in excess, you can consult an Emergency room and you can be given steroid injection to reduce swelling. It can however take 3-4 days to reduce swelling.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
