Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m struggling with sleep at the moment, in that I m not getting much at all. Averaging about 3 hours a night, sometimes for more than a week at a time. However, sometimes I can go a few weeks with a good 6-8 hours each night. I m considering taking allergy tablets to make me drowsy and help me sleep once I m in a cycle of insomnia in an attempt to break the cycle and give myself at least one good night s sleep, hoping that that will lead to another. What are your thoughts?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Anti allergy pills have side effect of causing drowsiness / sleep. Probably, that is helping you. Actually one should try to have a healthy sleep cycle by: - Having a good life style (eating healthy in time, daily exercises, good digestion regular bowel evacuation) -Avoiding physical or mental stress - Trying to sleep at a fixed time - By testing in a cosy bed room after taking refreshing wash, drinking warm glass of milk - Using body & mind relaxation by 'Yoganidra' technique - Taking help of a psychologist / psychotherapist as per the need.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
