Suggest Remedies For Fordyce Spots On The Lips

I have lots of fordyce spots on my lips. A few weeks ago I noticed a rough raised spot on my lower in the morning. Didn't hurt and wasn't itchy or anything. I squeezed and popped it and white pus and a little blood came out. Still didn't hurt but left a little blemish for a day or two. Is this just an irritated fordyce spot?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your query you have symptoms of fordyce spots on the lips which is due to hypertrophied sebaceous glands. It is not due to any pathology and it can be due to excessive oil secretions. Apply Tretinoin cream and start taking vitamins A,C,D,E,K which help in reduction of sports. Maintain oral hygiene.

If symptoms keeps on persisting visit an oral physician once and get it examined. Get blood tests done if required and start treatment accordingly. Go for laser treatment done if it is affecting cosmetic appearance.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain it seems that pus discharge from a bump on the lip can be probably a boil formed due to bacterial infection as the Fordyce's spots do not cause pus discharge. Fordyce's spots are hypertrophied and raised sebaceous glands that are present over the lips and are not due to any pathology.

I would suggest you to apply antibiotic ointment over the boil. As far as treating the Fordyce's Spots is concerned it does not need any treatment, however if they are cosmetically unpleasant then laser removal of the same has to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
