Varicella is an acute infectious disease caused by varicella zoster virus. In individuals who have not been vaccinated with varicella vaccine, the rash is generalized and pruritic and progresses rapidly from macules to papules to vesicular lesions before crusting. The rash usually appears first on the head, then on the trunk, and then the extremities; the highest concentration of lesions is on the trunk. The illness with chickenpox usually lasts about 7 – 10 days. Advice 1. Hydroxyzine 10 mg (tablet Atarax 10 mg) three times daily per oral daily for 5 days 2. Valaciclovir 500 mg three times daily per oral for 7 days 3. Keep applying calamine lotion 4. Drink plenty of water at least 4 –5 liters daily 5. Do not scratch as it will cause skin damage and infection 6. Keep fingernails clean and short 7. Wear loose-fitting smooth cotton fabrics Thanks
