Suggest Remedies For Bump On The Head After An Accident

My daughter, age 21 hit herself in the head with a colorguard flag pole. She has a huge goose egg on the top of her forehead. Should we go to the clinic to get it checked out? She has ice on it and took some Advil. my e-mail address is cgrifka YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
The goose egg is a hematoma--a pool of blood under the skin--and that isn't serious and will be absorbed in time.

But since I can't examine her, I'm obligated to say she needs to see a doctor for an exam and to see if skull x-rays are warranted to check for a fracture
