Suggest Remedies For An Itchy Bump On The Arm

I was stung or bitten on my arm Sunday, 4 days ago, while trimming bushes. I have had a raised, welty place, hot & itchy that started getting blisters. I'm using Benedryl cream which helps with the itching. Should I go to the doctor? I have a picture. Can I send it?

Hello and welcome to 'Ask a Doctor' service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain raised welt that is hot and itchy with erupting blisters after being stung or bitten by any insect or wasp seems to be due to allergic reaction at the sting site caused by toxic chemical present in the sting.

I would suggest you to consult an allergist or general physician and get evaluated and you can be advised anti allergics like Levocetrizine or allegra. Apply steroid ointment like Triamcinolone Acetonide. Do cool compresses over the sting site. You should avoid scratching the lump to prevent infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
