Suggest Remedies For Accidental Ingestion Of Bleach By A Child

My 19 month old grandson may have swallowed a small amount of bleach from water in a toilet. We washed him off gave him milk and water to drink as well as some bread. He seems fine. I cannot see into his throat to tell if it looks burned however I would belive ge would have difficulty swallowing and would not want to eat or drink if that was the case. Should his parents take him to the ER or watch him carefully for further symptoms?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

A small amount of bleach does not cause much problems. However close monitoring is required preferably in a hospital set up. Basic blood investigations like liver function test (LFT) and renal function test(RFT) must be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
