Suggest Remedies For Abdominal Discomfort, Nausea And Belching In A Child

My 11-year old son has been experiencing abdominal discomfort/nausea which worsens while he is eating and/or shortly after for nearly 3 months now. He belches tremendously to help relieve the pressure/discomfort. Our doctor recommended a stool sample. Everything came back entirely normal except for ph of 6, which I understand to be on the low side, but not acidic . Do you have any suggestions of where to go from here? Thank you.

Hello,

Abdominal discomfort and nausea can be due to reasons like acid reflux or it can be food related. As it gets relieved by belching, it's likely related to acidity. Antiacid medicines provide relief in such condition and I suppose your doctor has adviced the same for your son.

There is a need for diet modifications as some food items can lead to this. You can consult a dietician for the same and follow his advice. Make sure your son drinks plenty of water through out the day. After this, if there is no relief then I would suggest you consult a gastroenterologist and follow his advice on the same. As there might be a need for other diagnostic tests to get done to see what the underlying cause for these symptoms. So that appropriate management can be done to relieve symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
