Suggest Remedies For A Painful, Skin Tear From A Child S Tongue

I have a granddaughter who has what appears to be, skin disolved from her tongue with a deep rift, about 1/2 inch long. She says it hurts but is eating just fine (pizza no less). She will be 4 years old in August. This just appeared today and our Dr. is closed. What should I do. Her mother has called and asked me what to do so what should I advise her to do?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that a deep rift on the tongue of your grand daughter that is about half inch long seems to be most probably due a condition known as Fissured tongue in which there is formation of fissures in the surface of tongue..
It is generally genetic in origin..
The condition is harmless as well as painless but can cause discomfort and soreness due to food accumulation in the area and causing bacterial accumulation and infection..
As she is eating fine that means there is no severe discomfort present..
You should make her do warm saline gargles and also use a soft toothbrush to clean the area to prevent food accumulation..
In case if there is pain or increased discomfort consult an oral physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
