My child has been diagnosed with ADHD approximately 3 years ago. He is 12 yrs old now. I am looking for a physician or specialist that would assist in choosing the best options for my child including trying new meds. He is currently on vyvanse and Intuniv but it makes him sleepy during school hours (which the teachers are complaining about) or if we go without meds, he is too impulsive and uncontrolled (he just got in trouble for that). What is the difference between a child neurologist or pediatric physician with ADHD training?
Hi, thanks for asking. I can understand your concerns. In my opinion you should try monotherapy that is using one drug for your child. That will tackle his problem of feeling sleepy. The paediatrician physician with ADHD training are also called the developmental paediatrician and they specialize in such behavioural and neurodevelopmental issues of children. While a paediatric neurologist is a paediatrician trained in neurological conditions in children like epilepsy, neurometabolic disorder etc. I hope I have helped you Thank you
