Suggest On Medication For Birth Control

Hi, I had unprotected sex on Friday and I am to start my birth control pack today. However, the mail order is coming in tomorrow. I had my period from Wednesday til Saturday and still spotting today. Should I go buy the birth control pack today or can I take two pills tomorrow?

Hello ma'am.

You could purchase the emergency contraceptive pill which has an effect till 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. After this duration is will not be helpful.

Of course, the effect of this pill is as follows:
-If taken within the first 24 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse it has a 95 % protection from conception
-If taken between 24-48 hours after the act it has 85 % protection from conception
-If taken within 48 - 72 hours, has 58 % protection

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
