Suggest Methods To Handle Depression/anxiety

I have anxiety/depression but lately have been feeling very weird. Today, while taking a shower, I felt like my legs and arms were very weak and my heart felt like it was pounding in my chest. I sat down in the shower because I was afraid that I might be passing out. This has been happening to me more frequent than normal. Also I have been having a difficult time driving. Everything seems so bright outside and it puts me into panic.

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,

What you experienced could be a panic attack which is characterized by acute anxiety, feeling of doom, patient feel like as he or she is going to die or get mad. Symptoms such as tremor, sweating, palpitation, choking sensation often accompanies a panic attack.

You need not to worry about it too much as panic attacks are not life threatening.

SSRI antidepressants can very effectively treat panic attacks, anxiety and depression. If you are not taking any antidepressant, just consult a psychiatrist and start the treatment.

I hope this helps.

kind regards

Vikas
