Suggest Methods For Difficulty In Passing Stool Post Appendix Surgery

Hi Doc. I just had my appendix taken out and have been on pain killers. I had this on Monday and I haven t expelled my waste since then. I ve tried today to use the restroom and my stool is way too large and too hard to pass. I ve been drinking Miralax and put heat on my stomach and sat in a bath. I m scared to try to go again because the pain was great. Please help me and I don t want to go to the ER. Thank you.

Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

First thing- DO NOT take miralax- it can cause a problem with the healing of the appendix stump.

Request for an enema or dulcolax suppository to help evacuation. Sit in a warm water ( Sitz bath).
This helps a lot
