Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on medication for depression and I am having some trouble. Recently I have had surgery to correct some hormone imbalances and now it feels as though my depression meds are no longer working. What should I do? I actually feel worse and more depressed every day.
A hormonal imbalance can aggravate or worsen depression. Also, most surgeries in women can also cause a hormonal imbalance, which is why you seem to be experiencing worsening of your depression symptoms. I would in such circumstances advise either a revision of your current medication and to be substituted by another, or a temporary elevation in dosage, but only your doctor would be the best judge.
Best wishes.
