General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

Abdominal pain and mucus stool might be a sign of:
- malabsorption
- acute gastroenteritis

Normally, stool should not have mucus. I suggest to send his stool sample to the lab and get examined for:
- ova/parasites
- culture for bacteria/candida/virus

I also advise to do an abdominal ultrasound.

Depending on the tests results, specific treatment will be prescribed.

With regards to the foods, I advise to observe what type of foods is causing stool with mucus and abdominal pain. Encourage him to eat more:
- dairy (yogurt, curd, etc.)
- fruits
- drink more water/juices
- take probiotics to normalize his intestinal flora.

Wish fast recovery!
