General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Hereditary-pattern (genetic) baldness is the most common cause of hair loss. Hereditary-pattern baldness is not actually a disease. It a natural condition caused by combination of genetics, hormone levels and ageing process.
One cannot completely cure this condition.
You may be able to slow further hair loss by using minoxidil or finasteride.
Minoxidil and finasteride may prevent hair loss and promote new hair growth. However, this effect is quite unpredictable and varies from one person to another. Also, minoxidil or finasteride, if used, must be continued indefinitely to maintain results.
Hair weaves, wigs and toupees can be used to overcome this condition to a larger extent.
Apart from hair transplant, other surgical techniques that can be used are scalp reduction and hair flaps.
Kindly consult Cosmetologist or Plastic surgeon for evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
