Suggest Medication For Viral Fever

Hello Sir / Mam, My father, who is of age 80, is suffering from viral fever which goes up to 100. Whenever he takes crocin advance 500 mg the fever recedes, but when the effect of crocin decreases, the fever again reaches 100. This is happening for the last 7 days. Please suggest what should be done. Thanks and Regards, Ritika

Hi Ritika,
Welcome to HCM!

I am sorry to hear about your fathers' health.

However, I want to assure you that he will be fine soon and there is no need to worry. Viral infections are common these days due to changes in weather.

Viral infections take 7-9 days to be cured.

As such, there in no medicine for a viral infection. These are self limiting infections which get cured on their own. We can only get supportive and symptomatic treatment.

As your father is rightly being prescribed, Crocin (Paracetamol) is the most commonly used and safe medication to reduce fever. He may be given Crocin upto 4 times in a day to reduce fever. If he is experiencing high fever, I'd strongly advice Cold Tepid sponging. For this, take a cloth, wet it in cold water and apply it to his entire body. This will immediately reduce the fever.

Similarly, he must be given medications for his other symptoms if he is having any eg, cold, cough etc.
Hope this information helps.
Feel free to ask if you have any other doubt.

Wishing your father a speedy recovery.
With warm regards,
Dr. Sridhar Reddy
