Suggest Medication For Toenail Infection

My husband of 64 years old smokes heavily, had an infection on his toe that caused swelling and redness. Because he won t go to the doctor I have been soaking his foot in warm Epson Salt Water. The swelling and redness has now subsided however the toe still hurts him when he tries to walk. He is very weak and sleeps alot. His skin is very white in color. Is there anything I can do for him since he will not go to the doctor.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that the infection in the toe along with swelling and redness is causing inflammation and pain..
This condition is known as PARONYCHIA..
It can occur due to conditions like traumatic injury to the side of the nail like while injury while cutting nail, traumatic injury, ingrown toenail..

I would therefore suggest you to consult a General Surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation is generally sufficient for diagnosis..

As he still has pain you should consult your physician again..
You can be advised to apply a combination of steroid, antibiotic and antifungal ointment over it..
If it is painful topical application of numbing ointment and taking anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen can help..
Do cool compresses over it..
Continue soaking your feet in epson salt solution..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
