I have a toothache and I want to know if I shuld put ice on it or heat ? I just had a knee replacement and I have an appointment t see the dentist on the 19th but the tooth broke and the dentist put a cover on it an it fell off when more of my tooth broke. I can't get any infections with my knee situation and my dentist does not work on Friday so I have to wait until tomorrow to call. Anthing I can do to stop the pain ~ haven't slept for three days and now I cant eat. I do hae antibotics to take before I see the dentst, should I take them now?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain if you have an infection in the tooth causing you severe pain than in that case there must be inflammation and in case of inflammation you should do cold compresses as the hot foments can lead to aggravation of infections..

As you have had undergone knee replacement surgery done you must be already under painkillers and antibiotics but in case you are not taking any medicine right now you can take Tramadol for pain and Augmentin 625mg for infection control..

But if you are already on medication which you have not mentioned here you should consult your surgeon before taking any more medications..

Although medicines can provide some relief but complete relief can be attained only after treatment of tooth either by root canal treatment or extraction..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
