I have been having pain on my left knee for 2 weeks now and its hard for me to walk after sitting for a few hours . I am 63 yrs old female, what is the best pain medication I can take for pain. I am allergic to aspirin. I have x-ray on this knee before and the orthopedic doctor says I have arthritis. Now the pain is so severe that I have to take otc acetamenophen 400mg 2 caps every 6 hrs. I have been using it for 5 days now and relief is temporary and it comes backafter a few hours of taking it.Due to Harvey hurricane, I am stock in the hospital to work because our place where we live is flooded. If you can suggest anything I would appreciate it. Thank you. Mt email address is YYYY@YYYY
Hi Thanks for trusting healthcaremagic for your health issues.
In Age related osteoarthritis pain medicines are used to alleviate symptoms only. For that Aceclofenac 100 mg 24 / 12 hourly is usually doing good pain relief. Besides it has chondroprotective effect over other pain reliever medication so it is preferred for arthritis. Other measures should also be taken to prevent further damage to knee joint. These are- Avoid squating position. Use knee brace / sleeves while walking. Use hot water bags 2-3 times a day for pain relief. Consult physiotherapyst for exercise to strengthen muscles around knee joint.
I hope this information will help you.
