Suggest Medication For Itchy Rashes In Groin Area Caused After Periods

Hi I have got rashes in my groin after periods, which is irritating and is leading to further scratching of the same. Skin has become slightly dark with small boils around the area. Can you please suggest an antifungal cream which does not have an after impact?

Hi,

How many days is the rash there? Both sides? Is there any peeling/scaling of the overlying skin?

A rash that immediately followed a period, with superimposed boils is less likely to be fungal. It may suggest a contact dermatitis or other forms of skin irritation. I would recommend use of an emollient or calamine lotion along with antihistamine like Levocetirizine 5mg at night for 5 days.

Only if it is not responding, we need to consider fungal infection. After confirming diagnosis with direct inspection, for fungal infection I used to give clotrimazole ointment twice daily for 3 weeks. Meanwhile, keep the area clean and dry.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
