Suggest Medication For Infected Boil

Dear Doctor, My husband has a 2 inch of boil/abcess in his inner thigh which starts running after every few days and painful. My husband was feeling ashamed to visit a doctor and didnt use any medicine. Now he has started using a medicine contains Bacitracin/Polymyxin/Neomycin/Lidocaine. I just want to ask if this is right medicine or you can suggest some? I would be grateful Regards, Aanna

Thanks for your query

Seems like your partner has developed folliculitis in the thigh region.

Now firstly I would advise you to keep the area clean and dry as much as possible.
Do not apply any kind of moisturizing creams/lotions or oil over the affected area.
Wear cotton undergarments so as to decrease the amount of sweating.
Clean the area with lukewarm water twice a day and apply an antibiotic cream like mupirocin gel over the area twice daily.

If inspite of the above measures, the lesion persists or continues to increase in size, then you might need a course of oral antibiotics along with pain killers.

In that case, I would advise you to visit a dermatologist for proper assessment and treatment.

Hope it helps
Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Hello,

Welcome to healthcare magic.

I understand from your query that your husband is having a boil on his thigh. It is medically called as furuncle.

It requires an oral antibiotic like cephalexin or amoxycillin. The cream which he is using may not provide completer relief as boil is very deep seated and cream cannot penetrate so deeply.

You could also give him hot compresses for symptomatic relief.

Hope this helps you.

Take care.
