Hello!
Welcome to HealthcareMagic!

Based on the history given you seem to be suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Had I been your treating physician I would have advised you to take an OTC proton pump inhibitor (PPI) like Prevacid that decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It can be taken once daily on an empty stomach for at least 4-6 weeks. When acid is reduced, the stomach and esophagus can heal. There's some evidence that using this drug can also help prevent ulcers. Beside you need to have certain life style changes like:
1. Avoid smoking, alcohol, hot and spicy foods.
2. Take plenty of oral fluids
3. Do regular exercise, try to lose body weight if obese
4. Do not sleep immediately after having food, you can go to the bed 2-3 hours post meal.

Hope the advice given above would help you relieve the symptoms of heartburn.
A feed back is appreciated.
