Suggest Medication For Ear Pain And Bleeding Due To Cleaning
Hi, Last night i was cleaning my son s ear and he got hurt and it started bleeding. I tried to clean the blood with cotton. I used few drops of olive oil in his ears. What should I be doing now? He is fine and not complaining much pain, but I am very worried as there is still blood deposit in his ear.
Hi. It appears that there has been an injury to the canal wall and hence the bleeding. Normally the outer cartilaginous part bleeds more so this indicates that you were not too deep.
I would ask you to check for two things. 1. Remove the cotton wick and see if there is a constant ooze of blood or it is just dried crusts of blood. ( If there is constant ooze then place a new cotton and take him to the ENT)
2. After removal of the cotton wick ask him if has any trouble in hearing. ( If he says his hearing has reduced from that side then show him to the ENT. It may be a drum injury)
3. Press on the soft tag like structure near the entrance of the ear canal (tragus). If his pain worsens then it confirms cartilaginous injury.
Smear the cotton wick with an antibiotic cream or ointment when placing it in the canal. Do not let water or oul in the ear canal. Do not try to remove the dried crusts of blood or any further cleaning. Allow healing to occur.
If his pain worsens or starts to blled again or develops fever, take him to an ENT specialist for evaluation and management.
