Suggest Medication For Dry Cough And Faster Heartbeat In A Child

Hi, my granddaughter is 7 and she has a dry cough. She gets tired lately and I noticed that her heart beat fast while sleeping. I already gave her a cough syrup. I gave her a boiled ginger juice. Is there anything else that I need to do to make her feel better?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. Thanks for asking Healthcare Magic. Children usually have a faster rate of heart beat than adults. It could also be because of the cough syrup as it contains antihistamines, which can increase heart beat. The normal heart beat in 5-7 year old children ranges between 65-130. I would suggest to check for fever. If there is no fever, then probably there is nothing to worry about. If you have any other queries/question please feel free to ask. Thanks and wish you a healthy life.
